Hi I've owned the same 7000 for over 30 years. It was originally marketed as a beach reel but later proved ideal for uptiding and lighter boat use. It's a great reel which will cast adequate but not huge distances, tough as old boots, and perfect for rough-ground fishing.

Doesn't answer your question, but ......
Bought the 5000 left hand wind when I was in the states. Loaded with 30lb powerpro. Love it !! Have a mate out there with work at the minute who's bringing me home another one !!

If you intend to fish clean/mixed beaches, its a bit on the big side but for the rough stuff - dead on.

Even a bad days fishing is better than working.

I have used the 7000 for my mixed ground/rock fishing. It is certainly not too big and it holds 30lb line for medium distance fishing perfectly. Can be slow at casting, but by simply removing one of the brake blocks it improves the cast, and with 30lb line over runs are rare. Its a work horse of a reel but be careful to look after her, the spool tends to corrode easily if not cleaned after each trip.

i would be looking it as an alrounder beach and rock fishing. being new what would be a distance cast to you with this reel as for me what i call distance may not be more than a short lob to you so reel could suit
