South Donegal - Mackerel

#1 Post by pete »

People:

Duration:1 hour

Tide:Low water

Weather:Beautiful

Bait:Jensens and shrimpers

Rigs:As above

Results:Macs :)

Report:
Happy days the macs are inshore again. Got two dozen at local mark today in wonderful weather. Fish came in spurts....with shoals moving through from time to time. A great buzz to feel the jag jag jaggin pulls on the line and to see the flashes of silver at the top of the water again. Size was decent too with no sign of the pencils of last year. Great to be able replenish the bait freezer as was down to the last four

Nice one , pete
I fish down Inniscrone way and had always thought that you'd have to wait until much later in the year to catch them off the rocks . Are yours earlier than usual ?
You have inspired me to get out there . If I manage to catch any they will go straight into the pan . Well done .

Ah Blowin there well early....last two weeks in April would have traditionally been the start of them around my neck of the woods. The fish are noticeably thin mind so only just startin to commencing feeding properly i think.

Damn sure Paddy, all carefully tucked away in the freezer now. Those last two months before they arrive back inshore again is tight and its always a case of scrounging about at the bottom of the freezer hoping there is a few left over.

It sure has Al. Just to confuse it even more got these herrings yesterday evening on a set of tiny little sabikis, maybe 20 odd between two of us. Never seen them that plentiful off the shore....maybe the very odd or a pair at most but there were plenty of them yesterday evening. Strange fight....nowhere near has strong as macs but you still knew you had em on.
