Peeler crabs

#1 Post by Richie07 »

How much are they to buy in the tackle shops around Dublin? and do you buy them by the weight or the quantity?

Cheers,Richie.

They can range in price for live Crab from €0.50c to €1.30, obviously the time of the year is a big factor in price as Winter time is the hardest to collect crab. They are always sold by quantity and tackle shops such as Henrys, Viking, Dun Laoghire, Southside etc would all do them. It is advisable to ring your order in advance say 3-4 days ahead of when you intend collecting them. Most if not all Tackle shops would stock frozen peeler which can be excellent coming into the Winter months. They are less expensive and are usually sold in packs of 5 or so.

Thanks Robert.
Never fished with them before and have always used rag/lug/sandeel/mackeral and squid.I'll be going out again this weekend to Greystones and might give the crab a go.I heard they are quite good for cod and pollack, maybe I'll try a little cocktail and see what happens.
