Shockleader on Boats

#1 Post by fishy1987 »

little experience out on boats,i know the neccesity of shockleader shore fishing.but boatfishing is it the case of just ensuring you land your fish to have leader?i have a 7tf rod not sure what length of leader is required?.would it not gather a lot of weed?

cheers appreciate the help :)

hi fergal,i always use a shock leader to braid when boat fishing, usualy 40lb amnesia the same length as rod or a littel more, make sure you have a good tight knot as a bigger knot can damage the eyes on the rod,eddie.............

And just to make sure you stay confused :D :D
I don't use a shock leader. I attach a swivel to the braid and tie my traces off that.

Same as that.Using Braid straight thru gives you maximum contact.Usings shockleader takes from that.. Braid on its own every time for me

Down to preference, don't bother wit shock leader, prefer direct contact wit braid, don't see any real need for shock leader to be honest

Always use braid straight thru too. Modern stuff is very thin for its BS rating and cuts through weed like a knife.

sorry for hijacking post but would 150yards be enough braid on top of your line?

I'd say thats plenty for inshore fishing. What depth at your normal marks? If you're going offshore to wrecks etc, you might be happier with more.
