Trouble editing avatar

Hi folks, first post on the site. Trying to set my profile up and having a bit of trouble with the profile pic. After several attempts i managed to resize my pic,its now around 26 kb witch should fit. When I try to update it I get this message " This file cannot be displayed because the extension bmp is not allowed ". Any ideas what im doing wrong?

Hi Tim,
Try saving your avatar as a jpg

Save it as a jpeg and and it should work ok.
