Well still having the fishin bug from Youghal, and a load of bait still left over, another bait using session was on the cards, a quick phone around to see who was up for it and Canning and myself made plans to hit the Pier in Greystones (I was armed with a litter bag this time
) Arrived out and the place looks great but couldn’t help notice the broken lights… I’d love to find the person that did that and break their lights for them!! Anyways place was clean, and we set up, met Wayne from the site and his son, (whom by the way out fishes his dad all the time I’m reliable informed!!) (Howya mate) They managed a cracker of an edible crab!! Which will find its way into a nice pot of boiling water!
So we started fishin and I think every 5 Beard Rockling on the Eastern Sea Board managed to find my hooks!! Everyone else was landing a variety of species but me!! Just 5 Bearded Rockling!! There was even a single nice codling caught by some kids we met out there… Nice one lads!!
Canning kicked off with whiting, 3 beard rockling (which I was after to break this spell of 5 beards!) Pouting, and The Great Spotted Whiting!! (I let him explain!!)
So havin bait left over from the Youghal trip and under orders not to bring it home (Mrs. -> “freezer is full of bait!”) I sent out a 4/0 pennel in the hope crabs would do me the honour of cleaning the hooks for me, then went back to the other rods (sent out the bass rod with the smallest hooks I have ever used) and tiny bits of lug. Not thinking anything of the rod with the pennel I was kept busy with the other two rods until Canning shouted over KEV.. Your pennel!??! Looked up and damn the Shakespeare rod had found something to take a 4/0 pennel?!? Was wreckin my head on what it could be ..a decent codling..conger..good size doggie, Bull Huss!?!? Then the line started to play, it was fighting back!??! Taking line off the reel.. ( I never set my drag too tight just in case) ok .. I thought.. I’ll have this and gently played it in Canning Was Shouting Its A Notter, Its an Notter.. which I thought he was saying OTTER!!! First though was How the hell am I going to get an OTTER off a Pennel !?!? Then this creature came over the wall …..A Personal Best which I must say has made my Night! 3 Bear Rockling!! I was looking for a 3 Beard But this was A Beauty!! 40cm!!! and A quick photo and off he went again who knows next time he might be 50cm
Then shortly after that more rockling were to be had but what made me happy again was my last casts I came in with 2 pouting!! More off the list!!
Forgot to mention Cannings dogfish which we didnt get a photo of but it was a cracker of a doggy!!

Seems to be some nice 3 beards on that mark ,,,,,,, once again that one's a beauty 
canning would probably know more about it then I do though..
