Waterfoot Pier Friday 20/1/2012

Paul And Me

From 8.30PM Till Midnight

High Tide 10.00pm

Gale Force Winds and Rain

Rag & Mack

2 hook boom & Feather Trace Tip with Mac Then Rag

6 small whiting for Paul 2 for me

Called into Dans in Waterfoot for a carry out on the way to the Pier and found it near on imposible to open the doors of the van due to the wind. When we got to the pier it was just as bad, but this was our first outing of the Season and a big wind was not putting us off. So we bait up and cast across the wind.

We had only one other person on the Pier so crossing each other only happened once. For the first Hour i was using Mack where as Paul was using both on his Boom Rig, and Just after 10.00pm he struck first with a small whiting taking the rag. and in the next hour he landed another 3 each slightly bigger than the one before.

At this point the Rain arrived blowing right into the back of the van, making a cold windy night even more uncomfortable. Decide it was about time to use rag my self bite detection near on impossible with the wind but i was not going to blank even if i had to stay all night, or untill the wind pushed us off.

Then at 11.20 I got the smallest whiting I have ever caught and for the next 40 minutes niether Paul or myself caught anything except the cold, the wind was gusting even stronger, so we decided that since we each had caught fish we would retreat home and as normally happens as we lfted the lines out of the water we both had a whiting each.

As we lft the Pier the person in the Corner landed a nice size Pollock.

hard luck man. the pier just is'nt fishing well at the minute. got talking to a lad from ballymena who fished it last night and it was much the same. he only got a few wee whiting and coalies and the flats seemed to be non existant. just give it a few days and it should be back to normal  :P
