People: My Dad and I
Duration: 8pm - 2am
Tide: 3hrs before high 'till 3 hours after
Weather: Awesome
Bait: Ragworm and Mackeral
Rigs: 2 hook flappers
Results: Flounder, Coalies, Whiting
Report: I would have preferred to fish Redbay last night, but high tide was 3am and my dad is getting old so rather than getting home at about 7am I decided we would give Portrush a bash as high there roughly 10.30pm. Fishing was slowish to begin with, but picked up gradually and was actually best when the tide was almost fully out. I reckon a harbour or rock mark up that way would fish better at the moment, but as we hadn't been out for a while I just fancied the freedom of movement on a beach. Also, as a temperature plummet had been predicted I was concerned about hitting a few marks that you have to drive uphill to leave on the way home in case of icy roads. The biggest Flounder was half a pound, the Whiting were pins and the Coalies were half a pound to a pound. Not the most enthusiastic report in the world, but not the greatest session either, in fact the best sessions I have had in the past 5 months have been on my own doorstep, surprisingly!
(No pics as I didn't have a camera small enough!!)
Ps. thanks to the guys on site here who gave advice on the purchase of my new reel and headtorch, I'm really happy with them, cheers.

Re: Portrush East Strand (14/01/12)
its hard to be getting anything else other than those 3 species, and at those sizes, around these parts at this time of year. and that includes red bay.
the weather being 'Awesome' surely made it worth it over all. nice 1
