They where a fair size 25cm, one or two hitting 30cm. but as u are aware mark when you have a double hook up they give great account of themselves on light tacke. as u probably have experienced when the whiting are in and you are after cod and using 3/0 and 4/0 hooks the whiting will strip this well prepered bait before a cod can get a sniff of it and because your using the bigger hook the whiting can really become hard to catch. this can get a little frustrating. but heh thats fishing.
Luck is when preparation meets opportunity..

Fished Killouhter last night - loads of good whiting to 30cm around with a few dogs, small dabs, several small pout and a couple of codling. No weed and a joy to fish though it did get cold on the toes as the night progressed. Fishing tailed off approaching high water. Eels and rags for the whiting, the few codling caught fell to crab.

cheers for the info lads- thanks. nice to see a few good 'uns around. a whiting around 12" can give a good show for itself on carp gear with light leads. i love em!

I used a converted light boat rod that takes quiver tips and a long rod with a spliced in section of light glass. Both were fished with 3 oz leads and the bites from the whiting were dramatic. I had a few casts with a friends reel loaded with 15lb braid on this set up and the full extent of the bite was really impressive. Distance was between 20 and 80 yards.
