Fishing venue fight to the death

Ok which is the best for cod fishing youghal or monkstown, both fish deadly in the right conditions ive never fished monsktown because youghal is only 10 mins away sure why pass it, interested to hear of big fish from both venues

I think both venues produce good cod if you have the right bait / tackle / tide / conditions and most of all Luck!!!

volume would probably be Monkstown but size would be Youghal.

No need for a vote on this one
Lost very few good fish from any venue in Youghal but lost some of the best fish I've ever hooked into off de wall.
Youghal venues are all clean ground except for the right hand side of the Abbey and one more ace venue which shall remain nameless.
Monkstown is a tackle graveyard. Fishing at 150yds + you are in 56ft of water at low water. The first 30-50yds of the retrieve are fine after that it is rock all the way in.
No matter how hard you wind in, any cod over 4lb will not show its head until it’s under your rod.

The bigger ones just keep diving to the bottom all the way in. I’ve had big cod there on high water and the shock leader would only show when the fish hit the wall below me.

de wall all the way silly question seany everyone knows there is no cod in youghal most fish at the wall are ten pound plus now when i go out there might be a bit of space for me with everyone gone to the wall

Youghals been crap lately crab is also a terrible bait there defo blueys all the way

Fished it last nite a bite a cast but only landed 8 fish biggest was 6lb/58cm i must start using pennels

That's wierd I got a 58 cm cod and it was 4 1/2 lb and it stomock was full even had a rockling in there
O ye I'm not trying to be smart just wonder why there is such a difference?

Weather conditions and amount of fresh water can play a part in various changes also peoples different styles, rigs, traces.
Fished Youghal twice this year blanked both times, first time was for a silly reason though fish started to shoal in and i was busy taking pictures forgot to check the baits when i did found the crabs had been at them and cleaned the hooks, By the time I casted out fresh bait they'd passed and didnt return , 2nd time down I changed tacs, kept putting fresh bait out every 15-20mins but three of us toghether on one section of the pier kept pulling in weed, and there was a snag 40-50yrds out claimed 4 traces and shockleaders of mine:( was busying setting out new traces and shockleaders but without much luck of a cod, others down the top and bottom of the pier did well without snags and very little weed (though I can only pressume cause the 3 of us cleared the weed for them ) when I go down again I know where I'M NOT GOING TO SETUP!!
Then the full tide that night was 12am, 10pm a nasty storm came on heavy rain and strong winds, so bad we couldnt see the lads down the bottom of the pier.. stuck it out as long as we could but finished just before the full rise

Cod are probably the top fish regarding weight/length ratio differences, ive had a 6lber only 50cm like a piglet and another 62cm that weighted about 4.5lb, youghal cod as in alot of estuary cod are usually very well fed

that snags been growing the last few years lost 3 traces to it myself before christmas now just avoid the middle section altogether yeah it can be hit and miss around the place have a few blanks myself lately

Im well past the piglet stage myself , went back to youghal again last night few small cod knocking about for me anyways

Ever try the Cobh side Donal. The channel is 300yds shore to shore. A 150yd cast from Rinn Ronan should put you in the same spot.
