Results:1 cod
Had been planning a trip to monkstown but with the reports of the area gone of the boil, decided to head to Youghal for abit of cod bashing ,arrived at about 3.30pm not bad going from dublin to Youghal about 21/2 hours through waterford .
Set up on beach mark not knowing the area for about 2 hours not as much as a bit ,decided to move to new location and met two lads from Cork on the road side asked there advise on the area and the put me on a mark right next to them , only set up 5mins when the cork lads started to hammer cod , painted ray ,colies
from between 2lb and 4lb between them . Not as much as a tap between us about two hours into the night at new location rod nearly lost of stand lifted rod and into what looked like a half decent cod only to lose on the way in sick as a parrott .
Tryed all baits for the remainder of the night but to no avail , the cork lads advised me that the night before they were fishing the same location one with frozen crab with no results and one with fresh crab 8 cod up to 4lb and Painted ray
Packing up at 11 put last peeler on only to have last cast and rod went mad reeled in cod about 3lb
Reports from the local cork lads that monkstown has been netted don't know how true but might expain the mark gone of the boil
All in all not a bad trip even if results weren't great good to find new marks
Drive home long !!!!
A happy new year to all on sea angling and tight lines in the new year

Re: Youghal 29th dec
You saved the blank, at times catching one fish is like catching 10 it means that much to you, fair play
The finest gift you can give a fisherman is to put a good fish back, and who knows if the fish that you caught isn't someone else's gift to you?"

Re: Youghal 29th dec
We travelled down to Yaughal on the same night from north Kerry. We came well armed with lug, razor, peeler, mackerel, black lug, arrived around 4 went to a wall near the little park for first hr, no good there one other guy there but no fish.
Went out the road a mile or to another beach beside a caravan park fished there up to 11. We had 1 small cod 1.5 and a pouting about a 1pd. We had a few of the cork lads call they were fishing a comp about a mile furder up with little success.
The highlight of the night was a young seal came up the sore behind us got a pick or too of the little bugger. I would say they would bit not willing pet him.

Re: Youghal 29th dec
At least you saved the blank and a nice codling too. I have seen the same thing happening at the wall, I have fished it with frozen crab and guys with fresh out fishes me by a country mile, the fresh have got a completely different smell to them, even your hands do not smell so bad when using fresh crab as opposed to frozen. Better luck next time and happy new year.

Re: Youghal 29th dec
One nice cod is always worth the trip. Well done.
I can't say much about the fresh v frozen crab for the codling as on the few occassions i have used them, lugworm usually beats both for me. For the flounder i see little difference and on the couple of occassions i compared them for smoothies they definitely had a preference for the frozen, but then king rag beat them both.
Maybe just depends what mood they are in.
Happy new year to all.
