Advice on rough ground rod

I'm looking for a compromise between a rod that will handle rough, dirty grounds for conger, Huss, codling etc. And that'll give me good distance. I've been looking at the Ron Thompson Axellerator and the Ian Golds Extractor. Any opinions welcome. Cheers.

Hi mate never used these rods, I know there has been a lot of good reviews on the Ian golds range , now that I think of it I never heard one bad thing about them.
I'm sure some of the lads here that use them can fill u in more .

there are so many out there it is hard to say, there will be quite a few in the stables of zziplex, conoflex, century, greys and all the other brands! a lot comes down to price.
to me it is worth looking at the guys that do these types of fishing most of their time....... steve gregory and a lot of the south wales guys come to mind.
personally i have had a few that i have used in the conditions you mention so can only comment properly on them.
conoflex highlander... 12.6 i think, find it better suited to mid range or close in skull dragging.... rock fishing rod legend!
conoflex anubis 14ft 6oz.... can whack a bait a good distance and comfortable in rough, though the plus 7oz version better for this id say.
conoflex nemesis zeloso ... old, but one of the fav rock rods i used...
greys supro 5oz 13ft plus reducer. not a poker, but casts well and has more guts than a lot would give it credit for. decent all rounder.
greys apollo m2 6oz .. as above, but more backbone and heavier.
anyfish rock.... damn good rockrod... regret letting it go now to be honest
century tip tornado sport, well capable rod for what you mention... just wasnt for me.
zziplex tz 500, zero plus..... really liked both

all i have kept... highlander (fixed spool) and anubis (multiplier)..... not to say i wont add to them again though lol

Cheers for the advice Phil, am thinking about the afaw as others might be a bit expensive. Live in Dublin so my good fishing is done on holiday in Dingle, have to take that into equation price wise. Thanks again!

also worth keeping an eye on ebay and the likes for second hand conoflexes etc, some are even worth the money after u add postage...

Greys mk2 Apollo = rock fishing skull dragger lol....all the fishing I do these days is rough ground for conger, huss, cod and pollock and this rod I've used since the mk2 Apollo hit the shops and I've had conger to 32lb on it...pure
rough ground skull dragger imho plus it casts really well too
