Have a casting question?

I'm about to make the change from a fixed spool to a multiplier and all the videos casting with a multiplier the lads are using their left hand to hold the spool. When I use a fixed spool I release the line with my right hand when casting. My question is will I be able to use my right hand to release the spool when doing a pendulum with a multiplier instead of my left. Hope this question makes sense.

you will have no problems at all, when you get used to controlling the reel you might even switch it down low yourself

i only swithed to multi during the summer and started out with the reel up, and to be honest for me it actualy felt a bit awkward and i was the same as urself, i moved it down low and it felt more natural to me and no problems so far besides the dreaded birdie, be prepared for em lol...............but try both ways for urself and see what feels better for u coz im only giving my own personal preference every1 is different!!!!!!

If your only starting to use a multipler I think u should start of with it down low on the rod controlling the spool with your left hand as it gives u more control over the rod and it also let's you use cast further more easily!! I started off wit my right hand on the spool and changed over after about a year and i havent looked back!! I think you would be better off starting off left handed because if u start right handed it will be harder for u to switch over if u decide to!! That's just my opinion do!! Hope this helps.

Deffo agree with the lads above. Switched to multi earlier in the year and only had a fixed reel seat so had to cast right hand up the rod. Bought a nice new IGIM with coasters, tried the reel down the butt with left hand on spool and its way more comfortable to cast. It also frees up the right arm to punch the rod. Only really a bonus if youre right handed I suppose...

low reel casting was popularized by former tournament casting world champion, neil mckellow in the 80ths

by placing the reel low on a longer rod, neil discovered he could slow the cast down, build up more compression and gain considerable distance and advantage over his compeditors in tournaments, he went on to dominate tournament casting for a decade

what your essentially asking is whether you will have any difficulty with changing from high reel with the fixed spool to going low reel with a muliplier

the simple answer is absolutely not, in fact if you hav'nt done so already put the mulitplier low on the rod immediately and start from there

dont worry about release and control of the reel, its an immediate intuitive response, but the right arm has the freedom to really grip the rod, a big positive when directing the swing and punching the final follow-thru

give yourself a few hours practice, yet don't rush into it, don't concern yourself with distance - you'll get enough AND more of that later - take plenty of time and aim for smoothness and accuracy in your swing and technique

it may feel a little odd or akward at first but that should quickly evaporate until you will feel like you've always cast this way..!

then put the reel up high and cast..

the benefits of low reel should be numerous and glaringly obvious

if you don't find yourself instantly placing the reel back low permanently the reason can only be one of two things..

1) your doing everything completely wrong

or,

2) you could just be a natural born high reeler

expect a few birdnests initially if your unacquainted with the multiplier, its simply part of the process..
