25th November 2011 Downhill Strand

#1 Post by Monty156a »

Location: Downhill Strand
Time: 8pm until 2.30am
Tide: Full high to full low
Surf: Strong
Rigs: Beachcaster/Fixed spool reel with Pennel wishbone rigs (size 2/0 hooks)
Beachcaster/Multiplier reel with Clipped down Pennel rigs (size 1/0 hooks)
Bait: Rag, Squid, Mackerel
Weather: Light intermittent rain but mainly dry. Fresh SSE breeze.

I hadn't been out in a while as my regular partner has been laid up with an operation. We came to Downhill as we have had Bass success here all year and the tides etc. seemed right. When we arrived there were a few guys out that had been there from the afternoon without any success (omens wern't good) We were the last men standing at 2.15 and as we hadn't caught a thing we decided to call it a night. Low and behold then I got a strong bite which pulled the arms off me to reel in. It turned out to be a fiesty little flounder which was returned unharmed to the scary at times surf.

My mate was testing out his new bite indicating rod tip lights. As he didn't get a bite all night I can't comment however I was waiting for a plane to come into land on the beach with his twin flashing green lights pointing the way

All in all a bit disappointing but you can't win 'em all. A good nights craic with other sea anglers on the fabulous North Coast!

Monty.

hard luck monty. you put in plenty of hours there for little rewards man :(
but like you say, you can't win em all mate.
i tend to find that spot a bit of a feast or a famine beach. you'll either get loads, or very little at all
you must be due a good'un on your next run out :P
