Donegal Bay in the Rain 28th Nov 2011

#1 Post by johnwest »

People:Me

Duration:2.5hrs

Tide:Hi tide approx. 8.00pm in mid session

Weather: wet, wet, wet.

Bait:Frozen crab, mackerel, lug.

Rigs:2 hook flappers, 1 up and 1 down.

Results:3 whiting, 2 pouting, 1 soaking.

Report:
Was supposed to be tiling the kitchen but a change in plans saw me miles from home and with the chance of a quick trip to the salt. Wasn't too bad when I got out of the car, slight drizzle, not much wind and very mild. Then the monsoon started with a vengeance. Last time I was here I got doused in salt water from big swells breaking over me, at least the rain washed the salt out of my clothes.Fishing was very slow with just the odd bite, usually not developing into anything. However the occasional whiting to 27cm and small pouting did save the blank. There was that much rain coming down I could swear one of the whiting was the rare Freshwater Whiting, Merlangius fluviatilis!
