Unidentified Fish!

#1 Post by Bass Catcher »

WATERFORD Garda Fishing Club annual shore angling competition was held at Saleens, Waterford, on Monday.
Conditions were perfect but the fishing was poor. First prize winning fish was caught by Eddie Geraghty, The Sycamores, Kilkenny, with a 33cm long unidentified fish. The mystery fish had the head of a seahorse and body of an eel, with a narrow tail and brown in colour. The only other fish landed were a few wrasse.
I got this information from newspaper; Kilkenny People, Friday, September 23. Interesting!

Sounds like a greater pipefish,I find a few of these and snake pipefish where I collect peeler crabs from. The chap did well to hook one as they have a very small mouth.

Yep, definitely sounds like a pipefish. Similar reproductive biology to sea horses with males storing eegs within stomach groove/pouch.
