Donegal Bay 19 Nov 2011

#1 Post by johnwest »

People:Me

Duration:6.00pm to Midnight.

Tide:Flooding

Weather:Calm, mild and dry.

Bait:Mackerel

Rigs: 2 and 3 hook flappers

Results:Pouting, whiting and dogfish.

Report:
I had decided to give the beach a go again but as the tide turned to flood I was harvesting weed close in and at long range the weed was harvesting me as I lost one or two rigs including shock leaders with masses of weed. Enough of the vegetarian fishing and away to an alternative mark nearby. No weed at all here so first cast produced a small pouting, not a promising start but blank saved. How low have we sunk with "beating the blank"? However it was the only one of the night as a succession of whiting and doggies kept me busy. The whiting were averaging around 26-27 cm with 3 on the 31 cm mark and only 2 with gill parasites! 14 whiting and 15 doggies along with the pouting meant the single mackerel bought from Carty's in Bundoran was soon exhausted ( I left my other bait in my ma's kitchen) so time for home but not before stopping in Bundoran for a burger and chip. Eating burger and chips at 1.00am in Bundoran main street on a Saturday night while admiring the "talent" staggering home from the pubs........ now that brings back memories!

Got it one! Tanglerat no doubt has his own terminology, I might just be showing my age. I might take a few pics for you all next time or would I risk getting arrested?

Oh, that bit was ok, it was referring it to Bundoran that I have my doubts about!
