Donegal Bay, 12, 13 and 14th November 2011
People: Just Me
Duration:4 hrs, 4.5 hrs and 4.5 hrs resp.
Tide:2 hrs either side of high water on 12 and 13, early flood up to high on 14th.
Weather: Mild, southerly breeze and dry.
Bait:Lug, squid and frozen mackerel.
Rigs: 1, 2 and 3 hook flappers.
Results:pouting, dogfish, pollack, whiting, flounder, coalies.
Report:
Sat 12th, 9 small pouting 1 dogfish, 1 pollack (32cm) and 1 small whiting. Lots of bites, probably small pouting which are a bit of a plague here at the moment. Fishing died off a bit when the moon rose, a bit too bright?
Sun 13th, 9 small pouting, 1 dogfish, starting to seem like Groundhog Day so with the bites easing off I packed it in.
Mon 14th, felt like a change of scenery so I hit the beach fishing in daylight for once. It was lovely to be on the beach watching the sun go down with the sound of a very gentle surf rolling in and a few fish showing up. I started off with some flounder close in and around the 27-28cm size. Later as darkness fell, long range started to produce a few doggies and one or two coalies. A mix of doubles, dog and dog, dog and flounder and flounder and coalie followed. Final tally was 15 flounder to 31 cm, 9 dogfish and 2 coalies. And not a single pouting or skinny whiting to be seen! Surprisingly, most of the fish took mackerel bait rather than lug, what a waste of time and effort that digging was. All in all a very enjoyable session although some prat did drive up to the car park behind me and flooded me in his headlights for 20 mins, the subtle hint of me directing my headlight straight back at him didn't seem to work. Perhaps I'll get one of these really high power laser guided lamps and burn his retinas out next time.

Thanks Fisherking, I'm not really into exfoliation, I'm not worth it. Did you ever give the dabs a go? I had a quick browse through your gallery, very impressed especially the John Dory, a lovely photo.FisherKing wrote:Another good fishing trip john, your on a rollthat's a dogy looking buck with them dogfish i wonder does he use there teeth to comb his beard & ther skin to wash his hands

Thanks Creep, a couple of attempts by trial and error and I recently got a little IR remote control for my camera which is much better than using the timer. Of course I had to phone Met Eireann to arrange a sunset!Creep wrote:once again excellent report!! and the PhotosStunning!!... how did you get the one fishing with the sunset behind you?? its perfect!!!(and thanks for the doggie photos again
