dollymount strand southern end

#1 Post by penfold »

People:myself and Andy (bro)

Duration:7pm-1130pm

Tide:riseing

Weather:mild but strong easterly breeze

Bait:lug,mussel,fresh peeler,squid, mackeral

Rigs:3 hook flappers,pennel pulleys

Results:pin whiteing

Report:
Its a quite report
had been itcheing to get out the lst cupla weeks,so arranged with the bro n sunday was arranaged, been new up the area and after afew fone calls dollymount was decided.
tide was just turning in when we got there n just surfy enuff for Bass but billy didnt wanna come out n play.
all was quite for the nite except for crabs,
after afew retreats with the incomeing tide we got settled and managed to get afew pin whiteing,at least that saved the blank
we decided to call it anite round 1130,
there was plenty of action in the beach car park though,at 1 stage when we were packing away the gear we were asked if we wanted to join in with the group of steamy car windows beside the jeep
must of been the lent of our rods

i tink the Wexford beaches are calling me for nxt wkend

just someting i noticed lst nite, we were useing mackeral i had caught off Howth during the summer, as it was thawing all the outer skin went asmokey yellow colour,it also felt oily
would this be frm there diet during the summer feeding on sprats and herring?
has any1 else had that?

sorry didnt bring the camera lst nite for pics

PSML!! Sounds like Dollier is stil the same aul place  , But you do have to watch your backs down there esp. on weekend nights it can get a bit mental, and if your closed mind, or innocent deffo the place to go!!   Regarding the mack, sounds like a touch of freezer burn, best to wrap them really well for long storage (if Im using them as bait, newspaper wrap then tinfoil), if they get heated in the sun before freezing it pales thier skin and makes the skin soft, and horrible to bait up, remember that day we had 4hrs of actual sun... 3 of my mack went bad in a freezer bag with bottles of ice in the bag

Anyways come winter months Dollier will go queit again and the place will be OURS!! :D :D

Me thinks Sparkey+1 will be walking to the next venue!! :D :D Spent enough time in dollier losin gear, and breakin my bleedin heart, but one thing, ya never know what you'll come across on that walk back to the car... once I met two gardas walkin along the strand about 2am, other times strange noises coming from the dunes, sunken cars, sunken Ice cream van, list is endless, its just a very strange beach, but there again dead of winter its a pleasure as most of the nutters disappear, but summertime is deffo a no go during the night

Fair play for giving it a bash, and if ya have a few hours to spare sure why not :D
Most of the time it's barren enough, but big Bass and flounder are known to come of the beach at times ;)
Did you walk right to the Sutton end of the beach? If so fair play to ya, long enough walk without the gear
