Redbay Sunday 6th Nov

#1 Post by chuckaroo »

People: just me

Duration: few hours

Tide: coming in

Weather: brilliant, chilly later

Bait: spinner. mack

Rigs: yip

Results: nothin major but plenty of FISH

Report:
a fine day and so couldnt pass up the chance. firstly headed to a mark and chucked out a mackerel bait at distance, left it there and started spinning. it was a beautiful sunny and calm day and the water was gin clear, there were actually plenty of herring fry in the area flipping out of the water and so my hopes were up that something would be chasing them from below. a little disappointed maybe in that all i could manage were plenty of tiny pollack and a handful of coley, not too bad but was hoping for something a bit more decent - like a decent pollack or even a sea trout. ah well, cant win 'em all. a of couple of sea trout did show themselves but despite covering them i couldnt manage to get one.
decided to move location and headed to a different mark around the bay. was getting bites every cast but wasnt catchin so put on a very small hook and was soon catchin plenty of dab. none just big enough for the pan but had a great time anyway. also had a rod over the edge in the hope for a conger but to no success. there were 3 guys setting up at limerick point (about 6pm) not long before i decided to pack up.. wonder how they got on..?

an enjoyable little day all-in-all :)

oh, and tried out the new shrimp pot for the first time.. it was only in the water maybe an hour and a half to be honest so was glad to see that one shrimp had made his way in anyway  so it works! :D  - will be looking forward to using it a lot more often to get bait, and maybe even a snack to take back home if i get enough decent ones :D 8)

thanks Wilbert. hope you have been catching plenty yourself since the boat trip in August! i heard that you have been struggling at times.. maybe its time you sought a different plan of approach or methods, or maybe tried a few different locations!?..

Well done!! Funny I use a jelly that looks the same as the spinner but its great to see the spinner workin well, the softie has the single hook and has to be hit full on to get any joy.
Well done with the new shrimp pot, did you buy it or make it yourself?

bought it from ebay creep. its a great job. i will use it to get shrimp but its fun just to throw it in and see whats about for a bit of craic too.
used it tonight off a pier and was taking up loads of crabs and piles of rockling.
its wasnt expensive and is of good quality. heres a link: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/METAL-CRAY-FI ... 1910wt_952
