Monkstown 6/11/11

#1 Post by Preston »

People:myself

Duration:0700 to 1200

Tide:low to flooding

Weather:sunny and calm

Bait:peeler

Rigs:pulley and size two shortshank

Resultsk two whiting and three codling.

Report: After havin a great days fishing yesterday morning I decided to head back to the wall again to make the most of the settled weather and to try some rigs I made up. I got down for 0700 thinkin I'd be on my own but a good crowd was down .luckily I found an open spot and set up with my Multi set up using a pulley rig with peeler baited on a size 2 longshank. After five minutes of letting it soak I got several rattles so I stroke and nothing . The hook was bare.I then went for a short shank hook and cast again almost as soon as the bait hit the bottom I got a hit and lifted., fish on :) Although onling small whiting it was a fish . This was fallowed by a larger whiting and three codling of around the 3lb mark . I was gutted as I lost two fine sized codling , one at the foot of the wall and the other about ten yards after showing it dived for the rocks an another snapped line. Finally gettin into the swing of things . Thanks a million for all the advice lads .

cheers ferg :) I'd have been glad to get them that far but unfortunately my leader knot let me down the first time and the second its was my excitement . I was gaining line fish turned and dove and I didn't leave off the drag and bang. Line snapped

cheers mate :) There coming in allright but tough fishing . It's a fantastic spot but I did get annoyed with other anglers . Anytime i got a fish i had four lads cast in front of me causing them to hook my line and snag me. I have snagged once or twice due to currents but i always apologised and didn't cast across any other anglers

Useful tip for pulling up the fish is to use extra long leader,it gets on the reel quicker as you come in close. Would suggest Using bigger hooks than size 2 also.

Weldone on todays result.
