SPECIMEN WRASSE ON THE LURE 25/10/2011

#1 Post by lucky »

Have been looking for bass for a long time now local to where i live, today i decided to look at a rock mark very close to where i live, i had only a two hour window as the kids where for collecting from school, spinning rod in hand and some lures off i went , when i got to the rock mark the sea was boiling with fish, yes pollock and coalies coming clean out of the water feed on the small bait fish, it was the biggest boil i have ever seen, it was almost as big as a football pitch, first cast ,pollock and pollock every cast best was around 2 pound mark, then the coalies showed up best was arouind the pound and a half, in the two hours i had over 30 fish landed all returned, time to collect the kids from school, on the way out to the car i fancied one more cast into some shallow water, bang what the hell is this , it hit so hard i thought i found a local bass, it ran like hell, at one stage i just held on and hoped for the best,, some i got to grips with it and got it close to the rock edge, it was a cracking wrasse, finally got it onto the rocks, feck this i had no scales with me but i reckon it was around the 5 to 6 pound, i measured it from the butt of the rod to the bail arm on the reel, returned the fish , got home later and put a tape from the butt end to the bail arm and measured just under 21 inchs....

That's a cracker of a fish, especially on the lure! According to that converter its around the 4lb mark which looks about right, maybe closer to 5lb since its a chunky lookin fella. Congrats on it :)

Its 18 inches once you take into consideration the more left position of the measuring tape in the photo without the fish (look at the position of its head relative to the end of the spool vs the position of the tape relative to the end of the spool) - 46cm - put it into the converter and its 3 lb 15 oz. But as I said its a chunky lookin critter, probably from its apparent diet of fish! :D

Lucky, what bs line did you use to haul it in? They are arm wreckers on the first run! Well done on getting it in either way :)
