Flounder venues in Shannon Estuary?

#1 Post by Donagh »

Anyone know any good flounder venues in the creeks and piers off the Shannon Estuary. Especially if their near to Limerick city or on the south side of the Estuary. I have heard theres a pier in pallaskenry thats good. I'm planning on trying them from November on but I'm looking for advise now so I check where they are on my root to other venues.

From the best of my knowledge you will get them all the way up to Limerick!!, Foynes produces plenty from the far pier of fishing behing the main pier, then further up the road at the power station at Askeaton there are a number of spots with good mud banks that throw up some good flounders. Shannon too produces plenty of them at the back of the housing estates onto the large mud banks there.

foynes pier is closed to anglers. there's a stone jetty to the LHS but its quite snaggy there as a dredger dumped its load(pardon) there.
the car park for trucks is still open
why does yer last cast always take an hour?

Robert thanks for the response

I will be fishing reanna creek near shannon airport this year for competitions but last year the returns in competition were very poor here. Though I did ok in the one I fished. Funnily enough I was looking at the map and I had in mind the quay on the creek Askeaton. Is there a power station here or do you mean Aughinish aluminium plant.

I think someone has mentioned to me about the piers in Ballysteen and pallaskenry being good flounder venues but I don't know any more.
