Bass rod that matches Slosh 30

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

Bass rod that matches Slosh 30

#1 Post by roryodonnell »

I'm in the market for a bottom fishing rod that will pair up nicely with the Slosh 30 I'm getting. I'm not (at this stage) looking for a beachcaster but something smaller but can throw out baits. I have plugging/spinning rod already it doesn't need to cover those bases. Main target species would be any greedy soles that inhabit the coast around north Co Dublin.

The check list I have, in no particular order;

1 - Bootable. It would be nice to have it transportable in the car boot. I've looked at the Powerstix pro bass and it does look nice, it doesn't seem as rugged as the Salt XT bass.

2 - Rugged. As above, would need to be able to take some serious abuse from being used on rocky terrain and on harobur rocks for conger.

3 - Able to bitch slap a conger eel around.

4 - Cheap is good, quality is better.

5 - Light enough to hold

Thanks in advance.

why not get a uptider. a bass rod is not the best idea for conger over 10lb

i've got a few bass rods namely mustad viking and shakspeare salt - both great for what the are intended and i have had a 14lb conger on the salt rod but i honestly would not like to do that again - all sorts of cracking and creaking going on when i'd the eel on.

i had a look at some of the conoflex bass range - they sound like the'd be more what your looking for but as said above i think bitch slapping a conger is maybe a tall task for the rods i mentioned. but conoflex are tough rods so maybe the will suit.

would a slosh 30 not be a bit big for a bass rod? would the fittings suit etc?

Ok, manhandling a conger is way too ambitious, so scratch that requirement.
I'm getting a slosh 30 for light boat work and was hoping to get a rod for shore bait fishing/ledgering that it would suit.

Hi there, in your search for an all rounder, have a look at the Abu Garcia ESPRIT, This rod is an uptide combo, in its boat rod mode its a 7ft 6in. 20ld class soft action boat rod. In its uptide mode, there is an extension piece and the butt also extends to make it 9ft 6in. A very nice rod I think. Costs €125. Happy Hunting.

anyone have any experience with this -> (Shakespeare Salt XT EXTREME Travel Beach Rod, 11.5ft, 6 section). Would a slosh 30 fit on it also?

to be honest the title of your question is bass rod that matches a slosh 30 ,well i dont think a slosh 30 would match any bass rod as its far to big and heavey to go on any bass rod ,a slosh 20 or abu 6500 or a mag 525 would be a better match, you are really looking at a rough ground reel in a slosh 30 its not an out and out casting reel for general fishing ,more a boat/ rough ground reel,so the honest answer is their isnt a bass rod to match the slosh 30. :|

the salt bass should be tough enough for what you want and will work fine with a fixed spool ,as a general rule i think the casting weight for most rods is in the middle of what its rated for so if your rod is a 2 - 4 oz rated 3 oz would be its ideal casting weight good luck with the new rod !
