The Jimmy Smith 2011 Report

#1 Post by kstaff »

Hi All,

in an effort to get more anglers posting informative accounts of comps etc lets start here with your brief account from the biggest shore comp held in years. Basically where you fished ( Zone ) how you done ( fish qty and species) would do for now. It would be a great resource for the future and hopefully would lead to more anglers posting on Open comp posts.

Hope that makes sense? now spill your guts, where were you and what did you catch :D

Cheers All.

Had 18 flats myself (5 under) on morriscastle, lug & maddies with the odd crab leg took nearly them all. All fish inside the bank, only crab & shrimp outside by the look of it.

Thought it was going to be my day when I saw the below infront of my peg, alas not to be!!

fished peg one on morriscastle myself thaught i was on to a banker on an end peg not to be  found it difficult to locate the fish at the start then had a few before low water another quiet spell at low and an hour or so of action at the start of the ebb nothing in the last hour. finished with 11 flats and a small bass mostly to lug and maddies. got well hockeyed by paudie o driscool on my right who finished with 17 for a zone fourth.

btw great thread kstaff hopefully could become a trend

was on ballinoulart 143, had no maddies so knew i was kicking a dead dog

had brendan wall beside me who was very impressive with his triple shot first cast

with pretty much everyone else around me catching on the first cast i knew the odds were against me, when i blanked

got a counter on my second cast and another 2 casts later - but the lads were all 1s and 2s each cast

it was pretty manic at the start with lads wanting cards signed on all sides

ended up with 4 in the end all counting - 3 lug and mac 1 mac and rag

very nice gent to my left also from the north who was scoring well and had a dab and a pout at distance

as ive said already - last off the beach and couldnt believe the carnage - as jakes said in comp section, just as well it finished up at night as id imagine any dog walkers and other beach users would get a very bad impression of us anglers with the place dotted with dead tiddlers

you should nearly have to digorge properly before your allowed take your next cast out of the water written into the rule book if your going to bother with the release of the fish - rant over

i was peg 38 in morriscastle and fishing was poor mostly flounder inside the bank from all around with one or two outside and a few dabs ouside.seen a few lads near me in higher numbers looks like they blanked the lower numbers seemed to fish better.had 2 flounder on first two casts and only 2 weavers between that and 7 when i was going to pack up when i got a dab so hung on and got flounder next cast on my last cast tried for dogs with no luck ended with 4 fish.

Peg 60 Balinoulart, seven fish,1 dab,6 flounders, all in.largest fish.31cm,maddies,lug and small crab baits worked for me. Well done Southshore on a great comp.marred slightly by a long wait for final result ,lots of cards incorrectly added up, apparently. roll on the Seiko. :D

Was on peg 146 thought i was going to have a great session with 2 doubles in the first 2 cast then had only 2 fish for the rest of the comp . all fish were taken with either maddies or snakes as a tipping bait with lug and wraps as main bait .

i cant even remember my peg number think it was ninety somthing.. caught 15 flats and 2 schoolies. Went through about 1000 maddies and wished i had more! found the fish werent feeding that hard very picky. It really was great to see so many anglers, wish there were more big comps throughout the year.
