Greystones 4th Sept

#1 Post by Ste »

People: Myself and my son

Duration: 3 hours

Tide: high to low

Weather: sunny, southerly wind

Bait: Mack

Rigs: 2 hook flapper

Results: 1 coalie

Report: It was an odd one yesterday evening, the sea looked great with a nice bit of surf on it and the sky was pretty clear. I got to the rocks behind the driving range and set up just where the stream was flowing into the sea. I cast out and tried some spinning and lures while the line was out but nothing was biting.

Every time I reeled in, there wasn't much weed and the rod didn't bounce at all but my hooks were stripped bare. When I decided to pack it up there was a bit of weight on the line but no movement and after a few seconds it went almost slack. I reeled it in and there was a small bit of weed on the line but 1 of my hooks was gone and there was this little coalie foul hooked, with his tail torn and his stomach ripped open... Maybe it was crabs but it was something I hadn't seen before.

i think WAS a pollock is the correct term ,the fish hammering your baits and attacking the pollock where prob pin whiting size 8 hooks would hook em  your missing hook was prob a crab or lobster as i think a tope would have registered a bite  then again its not unheard of for tope to be patrolling the gannons so its a possibility 8)
