Re: oh my flippin back!
Get yourself to a good physio. ( good as in he'll sort you out in one session at a sensible price) My back goes this time every year when I'm fishin at distance (not match angling!) I'm 6 ft and skinny; and casting 6oz leads 2 or 3 sessions a week destroys me! Theres a fella in Dunmurry (outskirts of Belfast) sorts ya for 30 sterling. Its not pleasant but it works. Once you have seen a good chiropractor consider wearing a weightlifters belt for support and keeping the back straight it works for me.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but Nurofen has been withdrawn from sale at the minute and may not be back for a few weeks due to contamination. All stock was withdrawn Friday evening and stock tested yesterday

Its great but any more than two weeks on it and you can get run down from it as its harsh on the stomach so you have to be prepared to work with it to get the most out of it . I was on 75mg tabs twice a day

Re: oh my flippin back!
no
but i,m glad i,m not the only one that suffers
i got rear ended by a lad doing about 35 mph a few years back (in a car
) and have had my fair share of slides down the road off the old bikes as well so its not really a wonder it goes every now and then, have taken anti inflamatories for a week now and its on the mend
i,m gonna do docs last time i did it (over a year ago)she gave me a booklet on back care and it had a load of exercises in it ,of course i lost it

Re: oh my flippin back!
Diphene tabs with the added bonus of a diphene spray to go direct onto the injury, couple that with a foo fighter, small fixed spool with 20lb braid and 30lb leader and 3 oz leads and an easy otg cast. Worked for me anyway

Glad to hear youre on the mend
remember to use heat packs as the cold sets in. This will stop it stiffening up on you .

Re: oh my flippin back!
hi mate,
go to a physio and ask about actvive release therapy - its painful but it works. its a form off deeper tissue massage -they find a sore spot and work it till the pain is gone. this breaks up tough tissue connected to muscles and ligaments etc.
get a foam roller as well so you can stay suple at home - its basically a foam tube - you set it on the ground and roll yourself over it where your muscles are given you issues. the pressure of your body being rolled helps break down scare tissue like the method above but if your doing that on your back for a min each day you will feel 100% better and chances are if you keep it up you will have less re occurance of your issue.
i am speaking from experience - i had a bad snowboarding accident that took me two years and multiple operations to get over. i have used these methods and they will work.
good luck
dave

Re: oh my flippin back!
I've had the same hassle before with sprained vertebrae, twisted pelvis, fractured pelvis, and the likes, all due to bad back problems. It makes fishing very hard at times. I do regular exercises and they do help. Any work outs that target your core muscles, abs, lower back and bum, will help. When you build your core muscles they act as a corset/back brace and hold your posture in a good position and help to keep your spine in good nick. Just steer clear of repetition exercises like sit ups and crunches as they'll do more damage to your spine with repetitive strain injuries. I really hope this is of some help to you as i know all too well how much you suffer when your back starts to give up on ya. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lN52q7wwOU This link might also be of some help. This cast minimizes the amount of body rotation so you're putting very little pressure on the spine. It helped me when i was in a bad way with my back before.

Re: oh my flippin back!
im ten years with back pain after a motorcycle crash it always gets worse when i fish so only take what i need with me and i use a beach trolley and sit between casts as standing for along time puts unnecessary pressure on your spine still i don't let it stop me from doing what love to do oh and pain killers help. i hope you find some thing that helps

Re: oh my flippin back!
all back to normal thanks for all the replies lads ,that backwards pendulum cast looks interesting
maybe one too learn when things get twitchy again instead of just making it worse with the pendulum and off the ground
