Mullet

#1 Post by daveyboy »

etPeople:me

Duration:1 hr

Tide:incoming

Weather:grand

Bait:mepps and crappy lidl trout rod

Rigs:mepps

Results: a mullet

Gave the mullet a shot for the second time ever with a small gold mepps. Hooked one first cast, could not believe it. Had no camera or way of weighing it. I put my leg alongside it (must have looked like a mad man!!) and it was just over the length from the sole of my waders to over my knee. Still in shock at the size of the thing. I came home and measured that length as I released the fish (approx 60 cm). I'm now trying to work out whether it was a specimin?? It went absolutely nuts. Fish of a lifetime I think. Combined with the fact that I got my first ever bass on a surface lure yesterday, best week ever!! Talk about beginners luck. I've fished this mark for bass numerous times and never caught a thing. Might start going for the mullet now!

8) well done, Mullet fight better than bass on light gear IMHO, next best to lure is a light fly rod with a maggot or bread fly, depending on circumstances, this really gives you a boost of adrenaline or a nervous breakdown

Cheers, yeah I'm chuffed. Bit of a revelation really cause I never really gave much thought to fishing them. I didnt even have any rag to bait the hooks so was just chancing my arm. Only wish I had a camera on my phone!

Sounds like a nice fish... I`d recon at 60cm it was around 5lb maybe as much as 6lb 8)

Next time why dont you lie it beside your rod then measure when you get home
Then you dont have to lie down beside it
