Air pressure thoughts
So have recently been keeping an eye and documenting various pressure levels when out fishing. As Ive only been doin it the last few months I still havnt noticed any evidence that shows when fishing is better. I have read that a dropping pressure is better but too low will make the fish lethargic and put them off the feed. Elsewhere I have read that for Bass fishing anything over 1015 ya can forget about it. I know a lot of people will say its a load of nonsense, just go fishing but Im sure theres a lot that do study it and coincide their fishing with various levels. A few of us are heading down to Kerry for a long weekend and the pressure according to magicseaweed is rising from 1018 Saturday to 1028 Monday. Pretty high! Just wondering would we be best off forgetting about the Bass and focusing on other species? Just wanna get peoples views on the matter. Cheers. At least the weather will be sweet... hopefully! Looking forward to a pint of Guinness in Murphys, Brandon Pier.

Re: Air pressure thoughts
once fished on a charter boat out of Kilmore Quay about this time of year.I remember it was dead calm, and sunny, with the sea like a mirror ,it had been like that all week as a result of high pressure over the country, the fishing was pretty poor ,with reason given was that the fish were lethargic as a result of the continous high pressure...not 100% certain how true it is..I dont take barometric pressure in to account when headin'out... maybe I should.

"THIS THING THAT WE DO"
THE WORLD NEEDS MORE PICTURES OF PEOPLE HOLDING FISH
AND LESS PICTURES OF PEOPLE HOLDING CAMERAS IN BATHROOM MIRRORS!

Re: Air pressure thoughts
Cheers Willie. So its the higher pressure that makes them lethargic then?
Haha 44 views and only one answer. All the lads scratching their heads...
Think I need to talk to a scientist or a marine biologist on this one.

Re: Air pressure thoughts
Interesting, very interesting.....
As I am new to the forum I have just finished reading through Cortez posts on 'predictable fishing' now I have the air pressure to deal with
I have done a good bit of pike fishing and know that the air pressure can effect the fishing. From some of the reading I have done it appears that changing air pressures can switch fish on. I would imagine that this would have the same impact on coastal fish. I know for sure that some of the game anglers say that a changing pressure brings the fish on but as they are targeting migratory fish that need new water (spate), and changing pressure usually means rain, then it is no surprise that this can effect the fishing.
Good post man!

Its the sunshine factor thats most important for me. Some of my best days - afloat or ashore hunting bass - have been in high pressure calm spells but with a good covering of high grey cloud making things nice and dull.

You have enough things to Worry about Jay when heading out, don't add another one to the list...you'll end up never going out at all if you don't think the conditions are right

If your getting a roll on the sea, target the Bass and flats, if it's flat calm go for Ray, Doggies, wrasse etc or slap on a lure!

Thanks lads for the replys. In the words of Mr Burns when his supposed flying monkeys fall to their death "Continue the research"...

Ah I wouldnt let it bother me to the point of not goin fishing if I thought the conditions were a bit off. I believe that if a fish is near by and has the hunger on him hes gonna munch that bait and not give a flyin %^@% what the air is doin. Im a bit of a geek though when it comes to research. Re: Air pressure thoughts
we have noticed that if we have a lot of low pressure it certainly slows the huss and ray fishing, the huss in particular.
A couple of the skippers I know say that shark fishing is a waste of time when there is low pressure about so perhaps there is a connestion there.
Of course there is always the exception to the rule.........

Live out on the beautiful Beara Peninsula. Always willing to assist visiting anglers.

Thanks for the replys lads. Hopes have been raised a little more now for the weekend.
Thanks Paul. Ive always thought that the dropping to low pressure was better but if the proof is in the puddin...Paul Harris wrote:we have noticed that if we have a lot of low pressure it certainly slows the huss and ray fishing, the huss in particular.
