Is there a local number that can be rang in relation to this?

Countless people who use a "Rucksack" for want of a better word when spinning for bass in this general area, when in all fairness spinning tackle is as we all know quiet light, and likewise the amount of Irish people and Non Nationals taking small fish, god knows we have waited long enough to try get stocks up to a good level, its a total shame, these people call them selves anglers, sorry there just theives and should be proscuted for it!

some people might have a flask and sambos in there rucksack if ya see anyone taking more than 2 bass in a session you should ring 1890 76 76 76 dont know if there is a local number

The all important number is 1890 34 74 24 or for easier recall 1890 FISH 24. This phone line is designed to encourage the reporting of incidences of illegal fishing, water pollution and invasive species. Inland Fisheries Ireland staff will investigate the reports and process as appropriate.
From December 1st, the public can call IFI any time they witness illegal fishing or discover a water pollution event. Receiving timely information is critical to apprehending those responsible for damaging fish stocks or fish habitat.

Its a finite resource - in my opinion its a very special area and always has been so - an area that we probably don't fully understand or can comprehend the nature and value of - it needs very special protection and management sooner rather than later.

A gem like this on the east coast of Ireland and this is the best we can do.

Not too sure if the I.F.I. will respond to people fishing illegally in the sea. Unless of course there are salmon or sea trout involved. Far be it from me to suggest that anyone should say it was sea trout that were being taken,if you do decide to ring them

Rosslare is gettin destoryed lads something has to be done and quick! one of the lads was down there for a walk tuesday morning and counted at least 40 bass heads on the beach These lads are makin 4 and 5 trips up to there cars with fish shower of f**ks

Black bag full of fish are being removed on night tides.
Phone calls have been made.
Confrontation has taken place on the beach.
The fish stock down there are being systematically wiped out!!!!

And no response back from the powers that be yet.

total scumbags . is there any word if the powers at be are gonna get the finger out and do anything about this???? their illegal activities seem to be common knowledge with the lads down that way. i hope it dose'nt end up being another case of an area getting destroyed while the appropiate authorities do sod all about it. hard to see the point of having these phone numbers to report such activities when no action gets taken time after time .

Through this site there was a meeting of like minded anglers a while back (2009). A meeting was held in Midleton and the fisheries board were in attendance. The “East Cork Bass Alliance” is not an actual organisation but a loose collection of anglers interested in the preservation of a valuable resource. The ECBA has its own section (private) on this website where anglers can discuss sightings of possible nets etc. There have been many successful outcomes where criminals have been reported, caught and prosecuted due to information provided by anglers.

Could you organise yourselves down that way? Have a meeting where the IFI would be invited? Make representations to be IFI and when you have confirmation publicise the meeting & gather as many anglers as possible. If you people can organise I would be happy to come down and be an “independent/ neutral” chair, if you do not have somebody locally to do the needful (contacting the board etc).

I must say I am shocked that such activity, which appears to be common knowledge and ongoing, is not acted upon. As I said to somebody the other day – If we had a problem like this in Cork the local IFI would be all over it like a rash.

Any numbers Jim for some one can get some thing done with this......there is a lot os p1ssed off anglers at the minute about this....i have spoke to the authorites twice in the past week and so have some of the lads in relation to this matter.... infornation has been put forward awell to the powers that be......these boys are gonna have to get put in thier place fairly shortly..................

I've had call to ring this 24 number a number of times since it has been launched. They take all details but do sweet F all about it as far as my experience is concerned. I have reported nets on more than one occasion and the follow up was some officers arriving at the area and not even following clear directions that I have given to find the nets. What the fcuk is that about? They have also arrived at times either too early or late in the tide despite being told EXACTLY what time to arrive at!
The whole thing is an unfunny joke. They blame resources and funding etc but I think their main problem is common sense and MOTIVATION. End result is they are simply not doing their jobs properly. If you or I wasn't doing our job in the morning how long would we last?

How hard is it to plan an operation whereby they know where and when and in some cases who is carrying out these illegal acts?

I've no faith in them at all and have been wondering to even bother making future reports to them.

Was out Wenesday and Thurday night no sigh of anyone either........tomorrow night is gonna be good will get that lads number off Mark tomorrow and am gonna plague him about being down there tomorrow night......................the war is on bring your lunch boxes and the the bull time to get it sorted out..................
