East Cork Bass on Lures 18th AUG 2011

#1 Post by Magpie »

People:Pat & myself

Duration: 18.30 - 21.00

Tide: Filling to full at 21.00

Weather: flat calm

Bait: Maria Chase BW Lures

Rigs:

Results: Pat 2 Bass & I Bass mysef

Report:
We decided to try our local hot spot for Bass. Pat was initially trying floating for Mullet. When we got there it was pretty quiet on the fish front. As the evening progressed there was more evidence of plenty fish. Lots of mullet and sea trout breaking the surface. Must get fly rod out at some stage. Was getting more excited as the surface was being breached in every direction. Was in up to waist height in chest waders. it was flat calm. Getting great casting distance out of the lures but plenty weed on retrieve. About 80 mins before hight tide BANG I got a Bass. Had great sport landing it and was a healthy 4 lbs Bass. Pat immediately gave up on the floating and changed to the lures. There were fins everywhere. Like fishing heaven. About 20 mins later Pat let out a roar and he had a mighty fish on. Landed a good 5 lb fish. From where we were fishing its a good 100 metre walk to shore with fish on. I was delighted he had one. We were straight back at it and within 2 mins i had a clear take but lost it. Minutes later pat was on to another and this one gave a mighty play and was a good 5 1/2 lb fish. I lost valuable time with a tangle in my braid. We fished on in a beautiful flat calm sea with the sun setting and the sight of Bass fins in every direction. I was glad to have caught one but thought could catch more with the conditions. Saying that I had landed another one at same spot last Friday.
