Fishing in Sydney / Cairns / Perth ?

#1 Post by thirty »

Hi, going to be spending a few days bewteen the middle of august and middle of september in sydney, perth and cairns. Anyone recommend any types of fishing to be done in these places, i wont have any gear with me so I'm depending on a guide or charter boat supplying that.

Also anyone know good tackle shops in these areas?Iis the gear generally more or less expensive in Oz? I would like to bring home some gear (maybe a rod and reel and soft plastics and lures)

Any advice?

Thanks

Lures are definitely cheaper and they love their sp's. Fish outa water I think it's called on Georges st in Sydney was pretty good. Only brought back an Alvey, and a load of lures. I bought a floppy cheap beachcaster and FS, line and tackle etc. for about 120 bucks from Target in Bondi Junction. Ended up snapping it trying to stop a big fish that spooled me on 30lb line. I used to fish at night off Coogee beach in sydney where I was staying with whole or half pilchards/slimey mackerel for sharks, australian salmon etc and a spinning rod off the riocks for all sorts of odd things. You'll probably get better advice, but it's a start

Have a wordwith SAI's very own downunder correspondent, JPS. He posts reports in this section. Whilst you're at it, ask him to do another one or two, it's been a while since his last.
