south wexford 6th and 7th august

#1 Post by corbyeire »

People: myself and danny m

Duration: 3 hours and then 4

Tide: hw and ebb

Weather: mostly glorious sunshine

Bait: lures first session, fronzen wraps, squid, lug and mac second session

Rigs: 3 hook flapper, 2 hook clipped down

Results: blank and 2 turbot

Report: met up with danny m from the site on saturday morning and headed out with the lures - fished one mark for about an hour as we were talking at the start a trout jumped - thought the omens were good but no joy

saw others about the area also spinning - but they had no joy either - tried 3 more spots saw a few more trout jump but no follows from a bass - seemed very quiet

fair play to danny - did not hold back on any info - knew the place like the back of his hand

sunday then headed out on my own to a beach fishing it down and over low water

got a tiddler turbot on mack and lug the size of him about 60 yards out

then next cast got one 18cm on the flapper in the small bit of surf - gave this another hour and then moved to a shallower area with even more surf - as the rod at any distance was just getting dragged down by loads of eel grass and bootlace weed

had no more to show for my efforts here but packed up after breaking my duck in wexford in the fine sunshine - not called the sunny south east for nothing!

Have fished S'Wexford beaches and rocks for the last two weeks. Bait and spinning.

2 small pollock while spinning evenings.

Nothing on Bait daytime.

No mackerel.

Only success was to find Cockle bed and rake up dinner, how bad then !

Scenery worth the trip, lots of Falcons and Hawks around.

Only boys doing the business are the 'Guns of Navarone nuts' who climb down the cliffs and fish off of the wet Rocks, the Sea cyclists / Kayakers seem to keep quiet about their catches.

Back to Cork this week for Bass in the Harbour.
