South Bull Wall - Dublin

Howya.. a friend of mine is eager to give the South bull wall a try for some reason! Anyone know if its worth bothering and if so, any advice for down around there!?

Hi Bren,

If you go right the way to the end of the pier, spin from underneath the lighthouse with any silver spinner for as many mackerasl as you like on a fine evening and some pollack close in high water is best.

A few codling to be caught on crab fishing straight out but bass very rare now. In the rough stuff to the right, wrasse in the rocks and weed and congers occasionally. Huge mullet in the river well over specimen weight but they need to be fed for a few days.

During the end of the summer there were big numbers of nice smoothies being taken on big squid baits at long range at poolbeg lighthouse. The full potential of this place has yet to be found.

Sure it wasn't a double figure sheet of Plywood? :lol: No offence to anyone but its a dump, the smell there is wrong to say the least and its potential comes and goes with spring tides. Smoothies are caught there but only on huge tides when they are simply brought in with it. Otherwise its spinning for occasioanl Bass, Mackeral, Launce and Pollock with the hopes that your car won't get broken into! We had a comp on the wall a few years ago and the winds were strong and the spray off the harbour made a lot of the lads quite ill for days afterwards :shock: ! If you want a spot around Dublin thats less toxic and safe and fishable in 85% of weather conditions I suggest you try Red Rock at the Mortello Tower or further up that stretch, its only unfishable in a very strong south wind, you will get Bass, Rays, Dogs, Smoothies and plenty of Codling and Whiting in Winter. Less walking too!!! :lol:

are dabs not present too in winter? i only ask because they are here in the summer. it looks like a likely spot to get flounder too come the colder weather as they start to move out of the shallower estuaries?
