Report: Late report - Last weekend 23.07.2001
Well it was time for a long over due session as I hadn’t been out in ages with one thing and another. So Dan I decided for a Westie session to see if the Allusive Westie Bass were around. We set the Venue during the week and texted some of the lads to see if they were about at the weekend. The tides were perfect for a night session so picked up some Rag in Henrys on Sat morning and hit west to Galway to pick up Dan. Quick bit and a cuppa and off we went on our way. Arrived around 17:00 and Polaris was already setup. Set up both rods at first with flappers baited with Lug and first cast had a Flounder, strange thing was it was unlike a flattie bit and really gave the rod tip a good pull. Things were looking good. However after that nothing for a couple of hours, but baits were being cleaned every time. The place must be full of crabs we thought and sure enough Jamie confirmed it when is took in a Velvet swimmer crab on one of his traces. (There lively little ….!! ). That probably explained the flattie bite.

All the same we continued baiting and setting the rods at various distances and then the fish came on the feed. Dan was next in with a Flounder and I followed suit shortly after. Fish weren’t any size but was good to have a few. Jamie then pulled in a double of flounder and Turbot and at nearly the same time I took in the same. We all had a few more flounder but the day was slow for this venue and we decided to call it a day around 23:30.

No Bass, but all in all a good out and as always the banter was constant all day. Good to meet up with the lads for a session again. The Bass hunt continues…. :!:

Thanks Justin, like you said it was a cracking day and well worth the drive down. Fishing was slow, but all the same great to be out.
