west coast estuary 28.7.11

#1 Post by davyp »

People: me

Duration: about 3 hrs

Tide: on the drop

Weather: overcast - on shore breeze

Bait: fly

Rigs:

Results: 2 sea trout, about 1 lb each

been mostly fishing freshwater - but visited this estuary last week and seen a good few seatrout jumping so went back to give them a lash - started with a large baitfish type fly - got a few follows but no hook ups , so shifted onto standard size trout flies - a claret bumble mini muddler , and teal blue and silver - fished up-stream and stripped back quickly - landed two, one on the muddler and one on the teal blue, rose a few - also had a salmon of about 6-7lb leap over the flies - nearly gave me a heart attack!!! one hell of a fight from the trout on light gear! :-)

crap pic from the phone - but a beaut of a fish :-)
