At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

Swivel Types & Sizes

#1 Post by JGF »

(Re-posting this in here as it's not got much of a response in the Shore Q&A Forum)

What would the most popular swivel size & type be for general shore fishing (making rigs etc), and also for boat fishing?

Rolling, Crane or Snap swivels?

Sizes i have seen are #8 #7 #6 #5 #4 #3 #2 #1 for rolling and same again plus 1/0 up to 6/0 for crane.

Check out the rigs in this link. Its pretty self explanatory regarding types of swivel.

The important thing to remember is to match the breaking strain of the swivel to your line. i.e. size 2/0 at least if you're using 50lb shock leader.

Hope this helps.

Bill.
