Poolbeg wall, 10th July

#1 Post by nanor »

People: Myself and the other Ronan

Duration: 3 hours, 20:00 - 23:00

Tide: High at 20:20

Weather: Mild, calm, mostly overcast

Bait: Feathers / Metal wedges / German sprat

Rigs: -

Results: 5 Mackerel, 1 Sand Eel

Report:

Myelf and Ronan decided to head out to Poolbeg for a second time. On arrival, saw a large number of anglers, none seemed to be having much luck. We found a quiet spot about 3/4 of the way down to the lighthouse and cast out. First hour fishing with small feathers (size 6) took 3 tiny Joeys and a sand eel of about 15 inches. Later, on the dropping tide, three large mackerel hit the same feathers but lost one on the retrieve. The bigger one was about 40cm. Smaller one was 25-30cm. Was glad to get something after a long run of blanks over the past few months.

the first 3/4 of the wall is clean but up and around the lighthouse it can get a bit snaggy

Wanted to use bait too but the tackle shop had no live bait on sunday when I went in, perhaps I should have got some peeler.
Was talking to someone else down there who was using poppers, said it can be a good place for bass, but he had no luck on Sunday.

Would the smooth hounds be on the inside side of the wall (facing north)?
