Michael Walsh skipper of Ocean Ranger sent on a report to me of a shark fishing trip last Sunday.
Michael and crew on Ocean Ranger managed to hook 13 and boat 10 blues the best fish estimated at around 140lb.
Conditions on Sunday would have been described as "not ideal" shark fishing weather as there was little drift. No doubt the spring tides did the needful on the scent trail.

Nice day for shark fishing all the same. I was out in my kayak thinking about the blues...

You don't necessarily need to go big on reels and rods for this. petekd was out with me and used his standard uptider to successfully land a shark or two....evan699 wrote:Nice blues. Damien you'll get a flavour here:

Realistically you can catch blues close in. I've seen the Ballycotton lads have them not too far off the island. I like to get into open water outside the headlands, probably around the 8-10 mile mark, depending on the direction of drift and the stage of tide.
