Wexford, 17th & 18th June 2011

#1 Post by John D »

People:Myself & a friend (Graham)

Duration:A couple of hours bait fishing on Friday night, bait fishing on Saturday morning, lure fishing Saturday afternoon.

Tide:Fished the flood at each mark, about 3 hours before high.

Weather:Water clarity wasn't great on the North Wexford beaches but it cleared a bit south of Wexford city. Overcast, mild, occassional heavy showers, moderate to fresh NW breezes.

Bait:Fresh rag, frozen crab, various lures.

Rigs:Pulley, 1 hook paternoster.

Results:A couple of very small smooth-hounds & a dogfish on the Friday night. A dogfish on Saturday morning. Nothing lure fishing South of Wexford on Saturday afternoon.

Report:We were hoping for big Smoothies on the Friday night and then a couple of bass on lures on the Saturday afternoon. We didn't connect with any big smoothies (in hindsight we chose the wrong beach!) and we don't possess the required knowledge/prowess to catch bass on lures when the water is slightly coloured with a good bit of suspended weed in it :-(

Hard luck lads, i've driven down a few times and was delighted with even a small smoothie, your persistance will pay off in the end, i'm sure. You deserve it John for your honest reports, one of the few lads who report your blanks you they get them. You've saved me a few trips down in the past when i've seen how its been fishing
