Lads,
Whats the main differences with buying, a rod for €40 and buying one for around €300, (yes €260 i know). What does the extra few euro get you? I have been using a Shakespeare rod, and I am buying a new rod today or tomorrow, and I am looking at the Daiwa Supercast. What will the main differences be? And also I use fixed spool reels, will I need to buy a new reel to match the new rod?
Cheers

Besides the build of the blank which will have had a bit more thought and research put into it there will also be the quality of the rings and fittings. As stated the better rods are normally a bit stiffer and do hold better in the tide. If you are buying a fixed spool rod then the reel you have will work fine. Good luck and happy fishing.

We decided to buy the Daiwa Supercast, but we could not get them in fixed spool version. We were even in contact with the Daiwa suppliers for Ireland, and they didnt have any. So myself and John D decided to go for the Team Daiwa Surf, 13ft fixed spool. We got it for 240 in Rorys. Very nice rod I must say, and we were dying to give it a try. So we went to Glin on Friday straight from work in Ballsbridge (4 hours), through all the traffic. We were really impressed with the rods, but unfortunately no fish. Thanks to Neilus for pointing us in the right direction, and meeting up with us. We will defo try again down in Glin/Foynes.
