Co, Sligo Rock Mark, The 2nd & 7th of June 2011

#1 Post by FisherKing »

People: june 2nd myself, June 7th Myself & John

Duration: Two Hours each Day

Tide: Filling

Weather: Sunny & windy

Bait: Limpet & Spinners

Rigs: Single Hook & weight

Results: June 2nd: one Ballan Wrasse, two Pollock. June 7th: six pollock

Report:

June 2nd

Was looking forward to getting out & wetting a line all week so decided to give it a go that morning.
Packed the gear in the car & made my way to a rock mark, on arrival it didn’t look good, very rough with some dodgy swells running  every ten minutes but I gave a lash, spinning was very slow so tried for a wrasse in one of the deep gullies but they were few & far between missed a couple of bites but landed one nice coloured wee Ballan 8) quick pic & back she went.
The tide was starting to fill quickly so I moved a further down the rock & started spinning again after a few minutes I spotted a nice pollock bolt out from the kelp & take the spinner which gave a great account of its self got her landed a nice fish of 3 lb, hooked a better one on the last few casts which put up some scrap a fine fish of 5lb 8) happy days

June 7th

We went to try a different mark as we hadn’t fished in years after a fair bit of a hike we arrived I was first to cast out & hooked a good Pollock that managed to shake itself free at the last minute  I casted out again & hooked a much better fish then disaster hit, my reel jammed, I tried my best to get the fish landed with the aid of a big wave but she made one last bolt for freedom & got in under the ledge & got free  while I was trying to get my reel working John was hitting Pollock every third or fourth cast with all the fish been around four & five lb weight, all I could do was sit and watch  the worst thing about it all was that I always bring a spare reel with me but had taking it out the night before to clean it & left it in the house  but I’ll be back & the fish better watch out

Well done Brian and John, great fishing. Shame about the reel Brian, it would have been nice to have got that fish landed, it sounded like a cracker, not to worry, you'll get it next time 8) That's a nice looking spot in the bottom pic, looks like the perfect ground for pollack and wrasse although I see what you mean about the swells, dodgy looking enough. A nice couple of days out fishing with good results.
Great report and pictures, nice one lads.
