Ennereilly 4-6-11

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me and Mrs Eyes

Duration:8pm - 11-30pm

Tide:supposed to be rising but i'm not convinced :?

Weather: windy but dry

Bait:rag, squid and crab

Rigs:3 hook flapper in close and 3/0 pulley rig at distance.

Results:3 x flounder, 1 x dab, 1 x whiting and 2 x pup smoothies

Report:I had tried to get out earlier in the evening but events conspired against me and with the Missus in tow , I arrived at the beach approx 8pm. Hopes were high after my early morning session to Wicklow Harbour on Tuesday resulted in a blank  . The only luck I had that morning was in finding a badly needed Toilet after a desperate buttock clenching dash through the traffic in Wicklow town  . Back to Ennereilly,,,,,,,,,,,,, The good weather heralds the arrival of the many lovebirds to this Wicklow Beach , who then set up their lovenests in their tents and vans. Thankfully my spot was still vacant so I loaded herself up and pointed her in the right direction. I carefully avoided the discarded beer tins and socks and jocks and followed on to the waters edge. In no time at all I had her set up in the Beach Buddy in her Canada chair with magazine in hand. I quickly set up the rods and tripod and got baits in the water. There was a stiff Northerly breeze and I was glad of the beach buddy, even though I had to sit outside  . I had crab on the pulley rig at distance and rag/squid on the flapper. No fish on the first casts but on the second cast with the 3 hook flapper I had a double, 2 x flounder  , blank saved  . Helen was busy reading her "Take a Break" magazine but she took her eyes off it momentarily to see me unhooking the fish, which were nicely hooked in the corner of the mouth. I was getting nothing on the distance rod but soon after had a small smoothie pup on the flapper on rag, barely hooked but handy to return. This was followed by a nice Dab  . When darkness fell Helen became transfixed watching the reflective rod tip , and she said it was very relaxing sitting there  . She also couldnt believe how quickly the time went by,,and I think she has come to realise the attraction of fishing. I had a treble of a flounder, a smoothie pup and a whiting, all small but welcome ,,,,,,,,,,,,,then the big rod arched over and I lifted into something decent. Unfortunately , whatever it was spat out the hook. This happened again on the next cast, the crab barely in the water when it was taken, I reeled in for a while,,,,,,,,,,,then could feel the bait being released  Then the bites died off and I decided to pack it in. An enjoyable session even though nothing was caught of any decent size. There again, size isnt everything,,,,,,,,well thats what Helen kept telling me all the way home

At this stage of the proceedings, I purpose we nominate Eyes for sainthood, or better still, a knighthood.
I can see it now, Lizzie rising her sword, bringing it down on Eyes left shoulder and declaring: “For duty beyond the call of man, and for the manner he initiated womanhood into the noble sport of fishing, I dub thee, Sir Eyesreilly, he of the 13 footer. From now on he will be known throughout the land as Lord hit the bottom with the 5 ounce weight, O’ Eyesreilly.”
One more cast and I'll be off
