galway rock mark, 3rd june '11

#1 Post by corbyeire »

People: myself and rolly

Duration: 14 - 21.00

Tide: high round 18.30

Weather: bizarre, roasting 2 mins from venue but then a strange sea fog covered the mark for day, had to wear a jumper!
got a good bit windy later round HW

Bait: manky mac, squid, sandeel

Rigs: 3 hook flappers, 2 hook clipped

Results: 1 ray, 11 dogs; rolly 12 dogs 1 mackeral

Report: was expecting a glorious day in the sunshine and to give it about 3/4 hours - but the sun was blocked by the fog

when we got down there, there was 2 english lads that had got nothing - they stayed on an hour and blanked - as did we catching nothing

about 30mins after they left rolly got a dog and then i got a dog - we had a few each for about 45mins and then it went dead again

nothing for about 1.5hrs and was thinking of heading when rolly said lets wait for high water - a few more doggies turned up and then i had the bite i had been waiting for - the pull was so different - even to the doggie/spider crab combo i pulled up

it was a female around 3.5lbs - she had an egg case protruding from her

set her back on her way - now rolly definietly wanted to stay longer

we pulled in a few more dogs but no ray - at this point the 2 feeney brothers arrived

and wouldnt you know it, chris first cast pulls in a ray

in the mean time kaylem was setting up the bbq and after 6 hours those burgers were a godsend - thank you, thank you, thank you

rolly then got a mack on the bottom - we thought this fresh bait might get the ray feeding - but no it was more doggies

tiredness got the better of us and we headed

think the 2 feeneys had a blast of dogs and chris added a dab, whiting, 3 beardy to his species hunt

glad i got the ray but it was hard got!
