Tope fishing tips / marks

#1 Post by yappo »

Have caught LSD's, Bullhuss, Ray, but no tope so far.
Had 3 outings so far boat fishing at anchor off Bray to Wicklow with no luck. I am using whole mackerel hooked through the head on a 6/0 hook on 2 foot wire trace, using 8oz weight ( or heavier depending on tide run) I dont have a fishfinder and am relying on info of others for marks.
Any advise would be appreciated as this is another species I would like to catch.

try drifting and see if they locate the scent that way.

best done in an area of clean ground. chop chum bits up and drop them over along the way. if nothing on the first drift try it for a 2nd one.

keep changing the bait for a fresh. every 12-15 mins.

use a rotten bottom.
why does yer last cast always take an hour?

Hi PJ,

Do ye have a GPS?? this will help no end if you can get bank co-ordinates etc.

Try PM or mailing Luke Scully or Neil Frankish, think they've had a good few this season so far.
