W Waterford, 13th & 14th May

#1 Post by Stan »

People:me plus 4 others

Duration: 9 hours each day

Tide: fished 2 hours each side of 2 bottom of the tide and 2 hours each side of top of the tide

Weather:Cool enough with NW wind

Bait:lug, razors, crab, ragworm & lures

Rigs: 2 up

Results: bass, dogs, flounder and a coaile.

Report:Decided to fish the last 2 days before the close of the bass season.

In the afternoon we fished the top of the tide. It was very quiet and I got the only fish, a bass about 10" long.

On Friday night, in another location, just as the tide turned I caught a bass of 7lb ( razors) and shortly afterwards Barry caught one of 5.5lb (lug). Both were in great condition and fought really hard.

We were back again in the morning but nothing showed. In the afternoon we tried another venue and as well as bottom fishing I did a bit of spinning.

Willy saved the afternoon by catching another small bass. It was actually dead when he landed it.

Back out again that night. It was quite cold and there was a very strong NW wind. No bass but doggies, a coalie and a flounder provided sport.

In terms of hours fished we did not get as many bass as we would have liked but hey that's fishing. In terms of quality we were thrilled. So far we are getting a good size bass this year. Hopefully, I will catch a specimen this year after 40 years!!!

Thanks lads.

Fishy 1987 I will help you in your quest for bass when the ban is over. I usually fish around the Ardmore/Dungarvan area. Just contact me if you are going to be around that direction.
