Portrush east strand and habour, saving a blank

#1 Post by Gabbey11 »

People: Myself and Shep

Duration: 7pm - 10pm

Tide: pull

Weather: Heavy showers, hard wind

Bait: Rag and mack

Rigs: loops, 3 hook flappers

Results: flounder and coallie

Report:
After a long day at work and a long drive up we got dinner at my gf's aunties house. We decided the weather wouldnt stay down for long so quickly grabbing and getting onto the beach we set up. First cast went nicely 20-30m with the wind in my face, as I watched the line I noticed not only did it get no hits but the seaweed was so bad it was blowing up to the top eye. Shep cast out and again this was clearly never going to work, so we packed up after 20 mins and a heavy shower later, got into the car and headed to the harbour. With some awesome reversing we managed to secure a spot with an already packed carpark making casting a real worry. We baited and went out hoping for something a little interesting. After an hour sheppey got a hard bite but nothing on, with the salt I decided to cast in the same direction and picked up a medium flounder bigger than normal but no more than a lb. By this stage we were wanting to pack down with neither having great waterproof gear and myself freezing. Last few casts sheppey saved a blank by picking up a coallie again just around a lb, with the weather turning again we packed up and had a few beer instead.

This is the second time this year weve tried portrush and nothings happened for us.
The next day and a hangover later we headed to port ballentrey (mispelled I think) and tryed both sides of the bay for about an hour each again no luck and seaweed just being the main trouble.
Not a bad weekend just not great for fishing :D

Well done lads, not many fish but decent sizes. There seems to be a few better coalies being caught. A 1lb coalie is not bad at all. All i can get is 30cm clones.

Yea no worries, my gf was up on the friday but her weather report was its a little windy but kinda warm. I swear if i had spread my arms far enough I would of been able to fly from the beach to the harbour haha
