Blackhead Bonanza 21-22/4/11

People:Myself and Brian (yngkmd)

Duration:5 hours or so

Tide:Fully out - High ish

Weather:Picture calm with a wee breeze

Bait: Sandeel,rag,mack

Rigs:Healthy mix of everything

Results Doggies,Ling,Rockling,Pouting,Coalie

Report:

Had arranged early in the week to meet up with Brian for a session at Blackhead.Packed my holdall and headed off for the long walk :P Arrived to find Brian fishing already and got myself set up. Approx 45mins later my 12ft rod takes a huge violent strike which I lift into,to find the trace caught up,manage to break it free and land this beauty (Brian reckoned it could well have been new record) I saw him hovvering with scales but the fish was back in before I realised what he wanted to do. Gutted is not the word :(

I landed a doggie soon after but no picture of it :lol: +2

All quiet for a while until Brians rod takes a hit,what looked like a good scrap later and a scramble over the rocks to land it,produced baby doggie for himself. +1

Coalie in the bag for Brian,this became Conger Bait :D +2

Goes quiet again before another vicious take and a decent scrap which produced the total surprise of the night.

Decided about 1am to pack up and head for bed but not before Brian hauled in his crab pot? and produced two lovely Rockling. +4

Further packing up and bringing my second rod in produces Pouting :D +4

All in all, 4 cracking fish each, 3 new species for myself,a failed record and 3 new PB's. Absolutely cracking night :D

shame a conger didnt turn up this time but have all summer to catch more.

Next time im definitely bringing a heavier rod and fresh rag to get one of those big three bearded rockling and wee ling.

mind you, 6 species, 3 new species and 3 pbs is not bad for only getting 8 fish between us.

6th -7th May look like similar tides and times :O

That may just be the most random Ling I've ever seen! :shock:
I know the Chiripo wreck off Black head holds a few! Maybe he was lost! Maybe he was hungry! Either way, GREAT fishing guys! Slightly envious :oops:

nice wee report there and good result lads. good fishin, mice reange of species all right.
would love to have an idea what this crab pot looked like or how it works...
