It only takes one, Donaghadee, 18/04/11

#1 Post by Drew »

People: Dan, Shep, Gabbey, James, Drew

Duration: 7pm - 9.30pm

Tide: Pushing, perfect.

Weather: Perfect.

Bait: Lug, Rag, Mackeral

Rigs: Various

Results:
Coalfish, Corkwing, Plaice, Pollack

Report:

I had 2 Coalies first off, one of which was 34cm, great, pier fished well for the lads, Wrasse and coalies the targets close in with coalies the staple catch. Gabbey and Dan had a wrasse each though. I got a plaice at distance, dead happy.

8.30pm, 2 set up on the wall, immediately started casting over both of my lines.
"Mate if you cast that way you'll tangle my line",
Casted that way anyway, line over mine, slight annoyance, expressed annoyance, reeling in hard to make sure he knows he's annoyed me.
Casts to usual area, 2 minutes line lands over the top of mine.
"Mate, I won't be able to see bites with your line over mine",
Reels gear in again, casts out to usual spot.
2 Minutes later, Line over mine.

CONTINUED FOR A WHOLE F---ING HOUR, AN HOUR.
I finally conceeded defeat. Packed up. And we came home.
The beginnings of a great night, ruined.

Good night.

They were quite clearly doing it on purpose, and I also can't get over the fact that one of them asked Gabbey for the left over mack! I'm glad he just chucked it in, if they are going to behave like that they don't deserve to fish.

Still a good night as you say though!! I'll get a wrasse yet! I'm going to tie more rigs tomorrow and I'll bling a few just for them!! A wee wrasse would push my species list up to ten and I'd be delighted with that
Species 2011 - 19 - Coalfish, Flounder, Pollack, Shore Rockling, Dab, Plaice, Dogfish, Long Spine Sea Scorpion, 5B Rockling, Pouting, Poor Cod, Corkwing Wrasse, Ballan Wrasse, Goldsinny Wrasse, Whiting, Shanny, Codling, 3B Rockling, Mackerel.

Species 2012 - 5 - Coalfish, Flounder, Pollack, Dogfish, Pouting ,Whiting.

Want -Conger,Short Spined Sea Scorpion, Cuckoo Wrasse, Tope.

I gave up using them after I had a massive birds nest and lost a big bass coz of it. Passing shoal, my mate beside me pulled in a 6Ib and mine got off as I couldnt reel in after the cast. He cast straight after and caught a 4ib while I kicked mine up and down the beach.
Top 3 lure caught bass 2017 :
10Ib 5 oz
9Ib 2oz
8Ib 11oz

Bad luck drew with the ass h**es. The few times i fished the Dee, the worst i got was a chat with "conger man" with the wee dog, a harmless old guy, telling the tales of great conger catches there.

I should of stuck on a 5.5 anchor lead and just cast , reeled cast lol
loved the guys face when i just threw the mack over the back wall,
think ill bring a saw blade next time duck tap it on and drag over them both that should cause a few issues haha.
The plaice was lovely to see tho have to admit night ruined thanks to mack bashers :(

The dredging certainly had an adverse effect on the Codling fishing, and the Wrasse fishing inside the harbour, however it has been very good for Coalies since, and the Flattie numbers have increased easily 5 fold. 8)

As my pretty much second home I hope its recovering :D
Tryed bangor last night dont know if sheps doing a report but daylight seemed a lot better catching a whiting and what looked like a small haddock. (1 new species each)
No luck on anything good but maybe just not casting in the right areas, very sandy bottom and plenty of fish hitting the surface, may give it another shot on saturday after work.
Girlfriends home tonight to end my 10 day fishing marathon haha got a few days off maybe saved for a good days fishing in the near future drew!
