Went for a cast yesterday evening with Evan, I decided to leave the small hooks and worms at home which would have caught a lot of flounder but the main thing on our minds for the last few weeks has been BASS so much so im dreaming of them and having never caught one before would make 1 a new species!
Had 2 or 3 recent sessions on the same venue which provided mainly flounder.
Set up my new rod and reel so I had 2 rods for the first time ever on my tripod! Both of us casting at all sort of ranges to try and locate some nibbles! A few early flounder graced our hooks Evan with quite a sizeable one. I got a left handed flounder? So things went very slow for best part of to hours reeling in full razors untouched or nibbled by little coalies/flounders!
Toward the 8.30 mark I was getting an actually knock on my rod and it was looking good
I was baiting up my rod and glancing at my other out at close range (my new rod with two 3/0s on a flapper) it got a violent whack at first I thought I was seeing things having been staring at my rod tip all night but sure enough another series of Knocks and for the tripods safety I grabbed the rod struck and could feel the weight straight away! The fight he put up coming in close was unreal my rod dancing like the new time. In he came fighting like a demon I couldn’t see properly but from the sliver of silver I saw, my heart started to skip a beat! I hauled this Mongolian fish(for me that is) onto the shore and was astonished by its size. Evan came to my aid and when even declares that’s a fine fish “it’s a fine fish”
Without the scales Evan estimated 5lb not sure but a new species! I christened my rod and easily this bass was double the weight of anything I have caught! Very quick snap and delighted he sped away to fatten up so we can try and catch him again when he hits double digits
Great evening topped of by Evans 2-3lb bass on his second last cast.
